Why Insulate

- The only way to keep a room (let alone an entire home) warm is to have a conditioning unit or heater/fire going at all times
- There is very little temperature difference between the inside and outside of your house?
As soon as you turn your heater or air-con off, the temperature of the room starts to change almost immediately. - In some cases, it is colder inside in winter than the outside temperature? or warmer inside then it is outside in summer?
- You may feel condemned to wearing a thousand layers inside in winter just to stay warm, or paying exorbitant energy bills throughout the year just to stay comfortable in your own home.
Then you may need to consider renewing the insulation in your home.
How is insulation supposed to make a difference?
The R value of insulation is an important factor to consider when it comes to insulation. R-value formula measures easily energy, or heat can pass through a barrier, but this does not just apply to insulation, it can apply to aspects of your home such as wooden and carpeted floors. The formula for r-ratings is as follows:
R-Value = Thickness (m) / Thermal conductivity (W/mK)
Generally speaking, the thicker the insulation is, the more air pockets that it has and the longer the energy takes to move from one side to the other. This translates to saying, the higher the R value, the better it can be for your home.
If your house has no insulation, there is little to no barrier stopping warm or cool air produced by your conditioning units from exiting the home, and the quicker you will feel the change in temperature. As a result it can take much longer to condition a space, as there is also nothing stopping the cold air in winter, or warm air in summer entering your home.
Bulk insulation makes it more difficult for the heating or cooling you've created to leave your home through the “weakest” part of the house. This means that insulation works ALL year round, making your home more comfortable, and holds it's temperature more consistently.
